Movie Review: Tropic Thunder

Missed out on Japanese Flick - 20th century boys in Singapore, but caught Tropic Thunder (TT) in HK today instead. There were raving reviews for movie TT and I was looking forward to some great fun and humour.

Ok the thing is, I am not in favour of slapstick movies or those goffy humour. TT still reeks alittle of slapstick but definitely more poshly directed. I have to give Ben Stiler some credit as director but Hmmmm.... its a pretty forgettable movie for me despite the great acting cast.

Don't get me wrong, the show did generate moments of laughter. Just not the sort of belly aching humour, although this caucasian guy behind me was definitely belting out his loudest laughter and thoroughly tickled.

Robert did a fantastic job in micking the Ozzie accent which is definitely much more difficult to sound than a typical American accent. I did a few kicks in the earlier start when they did the trailer sort of introduction of the "cast" as the "cast".

At some points, I think Ben tried a little too hard and it got a little slow for my liking when he did his Jack scene. Also, I didnt notice it but when pointed out to me, yeah, there were alittle too much swearing in the movie and so definitely not good to bring your younger kids along if you reckon they have not already been expose to all the swearing in MTV, music lyrics and all.

Credit to Tom cruise. He is at his best doing the "intense" role and yet delivering it in a pretty funny way. Esp when he did the "dance moves", everyone in the theatre roared.

All in all a good entertaining mindless movie but if I had missed it, it would not have been something I would sorry about. I think the rave reviews are a little bit overhyped....

New Movie: WatchMen

Saw the WATCHMEN trailer and looked promising... then again.. trailers always look promising... I am really anticipating the release of this CGI flick

Here's introduction to one of the anticipated new movie slated to air next March 2009! Its another movie adapted from DC comic book about a group of vigilantes when war brole out between U.S and Russia in a alternate 1985. Apparently, this is gonna be a R-Rated movie..... cooooool... no more boring child flick geared for the young. Hopefully something worthy for adults looking for a piece of graphical action by action heroes...

Go check out the official website for the cool trailer (in better resolution than the you tube one embedded below) and other treats.

Overview: Oh My Girl! and Innocent Love (J)

After 3 months of break from Japanese drama, I am back with news of 2 new drama shows to look out for! Finally something to look forward to!

"Oh My Girl!"'s (オー!マイ・ガール) male lead is none other than the guy who acted as Night Kun in Zettai Kareshi - 山下 耕太郎

and the other "Innocent Love" (イノセント・ラヴ) has the same female lead 堀北真希 who acted in Hana Kimi.

I am not expecting stiff competition just yet and I am expecting Oh my Girl to garner greater viewership for the moment since the actor had a favorable fanbase after his last successful wrap up as Night-Kun.
It has been awhile since I had that huge anticipation for each new episode of a good drama. Taiwanese "Hot shot" is so crap that i cannot even bear to continue watching regardless how many cute guys they have in there. Let's hope these 2 J-Drama doesnt disappoint!
Anycase, here's a first glance of the music video whose style reminds me too strongly of last friends...

Movie Review: REC (Spanish Flick)

When we woke, it started to drizzle on Friday morning. Such a damper....So we changed from beach to movies.

I did a little movie review and discovered that "REC" had strangely received high reviews. As much as 93% approval rate from Rotten Tomatoes! Even comments from You tube were relatively favorable for this foreign Spanish film. Much that it is very rare for me to initiate watching a suspense/ thriller/ horror after being scared to death by "The Ring (J)", we decided to bravely forge ahead with the option at APM cinema.

The movie started off gently with the reporter Angela setting off with the videoman Paoblo interviewing the firestation people. It was a little lighthearted. The minute the movie progressed to the call received about an old lady possibly fallen in a building, the heart pumping adrenaline also progressed in proportionate magnitude. The pace was very tight and good. The feelings of frustration, anger, panic and hysteria by the actors and actress were realistic and captivating. Much that you can possibly guess the fishy part towards 1/2 waythru of the movie, yet it is so well scripted and filmed that you didnt have much time to ponder about the possibilities. It is one of the rare "horror" movie that is really good and raise your heartbeat in a flash and takes a while to come down!

Some people compared it to the Blair witch project and Cloverfield sort of video filming, but I think this is done much better with a better cast. Beware that there are quite a bit of blood and gore at the start, not out to grab attention but i think more of necessity of the plot. The storyline leaves u in suspense and alittle gripping, as if u are with them feeling every minute of rising helplessness and kicking in of survival instinct.

The film ended in 80mins, and it left the 3 of us blinking away, still trying to catch our breathe!! We needed to sit in the foodcourt to discuss about the film for about 10mind to settle down our feeling. Of course there were a little details that was fuzzy to us as we were like watching the movie from the gaps between our fingers...and trying to deduce what could be a plausible answer to the ending.

It is a highly charged film which is not something to watch on an idle weekend, nor a vcd that I would buy. However, it is regardless, a good flick to enjoy and leaving you a little jolted.

It isnt scary. It isnt inane mad senseless violence. It is a little gruesome at some parts. It is just plain good. You either loved it or hate it, but hating it would probably leave u in the minority.
(I think there is a Hollywood version but originals are the best)

C-Music: Hot Shots (篮球火) OST

The Hot Shots (篮球火) OST songs were also pretty catchy with the first 2 as my fav currently. Really liked "Cause I believe" by Alan Luo but it wasnt inside the album... darn!

So what I have instead are the below..

  1. Track 1: [绝对无敌]

  2. Track 4: [隧道]:

  3. Track 2: [Superman]

Overview: Hot Shot (T)

HOT SHOTS (T)

I have started to watch the new Taiwanese drama "Hot Shots" (篮球火).

There is something appealing about watching guys playing basketball...the whole idea is more interesting, not to forget the 3 pretty good looking guys and HOT BABE as the coach "W" to boot... it was abit anal to have coach wearing hotpants and heels training them at court but what the heck! She's pretty and I dig her legs!

Even though some parts were mildly ridiculous with exaggerated motions being a comedy, at least the drama had me eagerly waiting for next development.

The OST songs were also pretty catchy with the first 2 as my fav currently. Really liked "Cause I believe" by Alan Luo but it wasnt inside the album... darn!

Track 1: [绝对无敌]
Track 4: [隧道]:
Track 2: [Superman]

Currently, am still following through to episode 5. The story is about this guy Da Ying who wants to play basketball after his grandma died. So the story revolves around him, his coach, team mates and the triangular love this girl that he and Dong Fang Xiang both fell for.

In episode 5, Da Ying (Alan Luo )has improved his skills as a basketballer by leaps and bounds. His abilities to read his opponents moves and tactics was an asset to his team, helping to beat one of the toughest (dirtiest) opponents to dates. Of course the love story is also starting to develop.

Am waiting to see how they are developing the script, though they are using Wu Zhun as mere pretty vase for now. His portions are ridiculously lame and small. He really need to polish up his acting skills even though I still credit his pretty face and good attitude.

Jerry is as usual, pretty expressionless while trying to play cool. Once in a while as required by script, he would flash his boyish smile but I wont really call that acting really.

Did I mention the Coco is acting as the coach...hot hot hot babe! God I love those legs!!!! Did I say I love those goregous legs? haa haa
